Wetumpka Middle School is the second largest middle school in the Elmore County Public Schools District enrolling nearly 650 students in grades 5th-8th. WMS services the Wetumpka community. The student-teacher ratio is 28:1. WMS has been housed in the current building since 1981 with renovations and additions occurring in subsequent years to accommodate the growth in population over the years.
Our academic program is organized on a pod system for grades 5-6
and on a six-period day for grades 7th-8th. All students take Mathematics,
Science, History, and English/Language Arts and a Physical Education class.
Seventh and eighth grade students are afforded the opportunity to choose from
additional electives including, but not limited to, band, broadcast, art,
drama, creative writing, marketing, computer science and robotics. Fifth and
sixth grades are offered enrichment classes including music, library, and
visual arts.
WMS boasts of several academic, service-based and competitive
extracurricular opportunities.
