SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT

The Wetumpka Middle School and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State's high standards.

 

This school-parent compact is in effect during school year 2012-2013.

 

School Responsibilities

 

The Wetumpka Middle School will:

 

•1.        Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State's student academic achievement standards as follows:

          ~Provide explicit instruction in classroom by Highly Qualified Teachers.

         ~Provide an equitable opportunity for all students to participate in appropriate educational        

           experiences.

        ~Treat students with respect and develop an understanding of individual learner's needs.

        ~Provide Parent Resource Room where parents can have access to computers, educational  

          websites and materials to help their children do better in school.

        ~To increase the number of students scoring proficient in Reading and Math on the ARMT.

        ~To increase students' attendance.

 

•2.        Hold parent-teacher conference during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child's achievement.

          ~Parent Report Day (1st progress report for the year)-September 24, 2012, during which compact    

            will be discussed and signed.

         ~Parent-teacher conferences will be held as needed for discipline and academic issues.

 

•3.        Provide parents with frequent reports on their children's progress.

           ~Report cards will be sent home every nine weeks.

          ~Progress reports will be sent home every three weeks.

          

          

          

4.     Provide parents reasonable access to staff.

           ~Parents and teachers may communicate by notes, student planners, newsletters, and emails.

          ~Parents may schedule conferences by phone calls to the office or leave messages on the   

            classroom phone.        

                

•5.       Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child's class, and to observe   

       classroom activities.

          ~ Volunteer opportunities include serving on the CIP Committee, Parental Involvement Committee,                                                                                                                   ~ Title I Advisory Committee, help make copies for teachers, sell snacks, assist in the library, etc.

          ~School's website is available for upcoming activities.

 

Parent Responsibilities

 

We, as parents, will support our children's learning in the following ways:

          ~Making sure that homework is completed.

          ~Monitoring amount of television our children watch.

          ~Volunteering in our child's classroom.

          ~Participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to our children's education.

          ~Promoting positive use of our child's extracurricular time.

          ~Staying informed about our child's education and communicating with the school by promptly    

            reading notices from the school or the school district either received by our child or by mail and    

            responding, as appropriate.

          ~Serving, to the extent possible, on advisory groups, such as Title I Advisory Committees and     

            Parental Involvement Committees.

 

Student Responsibilities

 

I, as a student, will share the responsibility to improve my academic achievement and achieve the State's high standards.  I will:

 

             BE RESPONSIBLE

           ~Do my homework every day and ask for help when I need to.

          ~Read at least 30 minutes every day outside of school time.

          ~Give to my parents or the adult who is responsible for my welfare all notices and information    

           received by me from my school every day.

          ~Attend school regularly.

          ~Put all assignments in my planner.

 

  BE RESPECTFUL

         ~Be friendly and kind to teachers and students.

         ~Respect others privacy.

 

 BE SAFE

~Keep hands and feet to yourself.

~Stay with your class.
